Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC), began as the Engineering Department of Hindustan Aircraft Limited during 1948-49 and has grown into a full-fledged R&D Centre ARDC has designed several aircraft ranging from basic piston Trainers namely HT-2, Pushpak to the frontline combat aircraft like Marut , LCA

ARDC has a full spectrum of expertise in all facets of aircraft design & development. acquired through sustained learning and R & D. Our proven capabilities are backed by rich in-service experience spanning over seven decades. ARDC has extensive state of the art test facilities and full-fledged manufacturing infrastructure for building aircraft prototypes & test articles, simulation and analysis tools to support flight development programmes.

The Centre is certified by CEMILAC, DGCA, DGAQA  and is recognized as R&D Centre by the Department of Science and Technology.
"ARDC is certified for AS 9100:2016 QMS standard & ISO 14001:2015 EMS Standard by certification bodies and AFQMS-2018 by DGAQA.  Metrology & NDT Laboratories are accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Laboratory standard by NABL."
ARDC undertakes:
  • Design & Development, Integration, Testing and certification of basic and advanced trainers and combat aircraft.
  • Ground Testing of aircraft structures and systems
  • Wind tunnel validations
  • Flight Evaluation

Intermediate jet trainer (IJT)

Intermediate jet trainer (IJT)
IJT envisaged to replace the Kiran aircraft being used to provide Stage-II training to IAF pilots.  The aircraft uses modern avionics to facilitate seamless transition to advanced jet systems.

Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)–Tejas – Air Force & Naval variants

Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)–Tejas – Air Force & Naval variants
LCA is a light multi-mission, agile, single-engine aircraft with tailless compound delta wing configuration, with contemporary avionics. This programme is  managed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). HAL, participates in design and development of major systems and structures. HAL is the production agency for this aircraft.

The Naval version of LCA incorporates challenging technological features as Leading Edge Vortex Controller (LEVCON), Ski Jump Take Off but Arrested Recovery (STOBAR), Hot refueling, Fuel dump and Telescopic Landing Gear designed for steep sink rate and the Arrester Hook system for deck recovery.

LCA MK 1A (Air Force)

This version is aimed to enhance the operational and combat capabilities, survivability and maintainability. Capabilities planned in Mk1A include; Integration of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar, Electronic Warfare Suite (EWS),(A4M) & (BVR) missiles and Air-to-Air refueling

It is also proposed to integrate Combined Interrogator and Transponder (CIT), Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Operating Data Link (ODL) with existing onboard avionics to infuse further capabilities to the aircraft

Hindustan Turboprop Trainer (HTT 40)

HTT 40 Basic aerobatic trainer aircraft is designed to meet the Stage-I (ab-initio) training needs.
HTT 40 Basic aerobatic trainer aircraft is designed to meet the Stage-I (ab-initio) training needs. An all metal construction, tandem seating, air conditioned cockpit, . Zero-Zero ejection seat retractable undercarriage, modern avionics  are the salient features in this aircraft.
