Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) came into existence in year 1963. We are engaged in the design, development, manufacture, repair, overhaul, upgrade and servicing of a wide range of products including, aircraft, helicopters, aeroengines, avionics, accessories, aerospace structures and Industrial Marine Gas Turbines. We have been conferred with the “Maharatna” status by the GoI in Oct 2024 which provides us with strategic and operational autonomy and enhanced powers to make prompt investment decisions, subject to an overall investment ceiling set by the GoI. We sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the MoD on a yearly basis, which outlines various targeted performance parameters for a given year. As the Company has done exceedingly well in achieving its targeted performance parameters, it has been continuously receiving “Excellent” rating from the GoI since the year 2002.

Our operations are organised into five complexes, namely the Bangalore Complex, MiG Complex, Helicopter Complex, Accessories Complex, and Design Complex, which together include 21 Divisions and 09 Research and Design centres (“R&D Centres”) located across India. In addition, we have 12 commercial joint venture companies, 07 Not for Profit (Section-8) Companies and 02 subsidiary companies to enhance our operations. We rely on indigenous design and development as well as enter into technology transfer and licence agreements with foreign OEMs to manufacture our products. We have so far produced 17 types of aircraft from inhouse design and development and 14 types under license.

Presently, our major supplies and services are for the Indian Defence Services – IAF, Army, Navy and Coast Guard. We have been supporting the fleet of Indian Defence for over five decades. We have also successfully exported our products and services to various countries over the years, and in the process of enhancing the exports.

We are currently manufacturing Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A, Do228 Aircraft/Hindustan-228 aircraft, HTT-40 Basic Trainer, Dhruv – Advanced Light Helicopter, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), and Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) along with associated engines, avionics & accessories. Additionally, we have production line available for production of Su-30 MKI Aircraft, Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer. Our immediate future projects include, Utility Helicopter-Maritime (Naval version of ALH), Variants of LCA and Combat Air Teaming System (CATS).
