Welcome to Helicopter Division, Tumakuru of HAL (Helicopter Complex).
HAL Helicopter Division Tumakuru (HDT), Asia’s largest Helicopter Factory, a state of the art establishment sprawling over 615 acres, poised to become an epicentre of Indian Rotary wing armature.
The foundation stone of Helicopter Division, Tumakuru was laid on 03rd January, 2016 by Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and has been operationalized on 06th Feb, 2023.
The Greenfield division is envisaged for manufacturing, assembly and flight testing of India’s multi-dimensional array of home-grown Helicopter platforms, engineered across a range of operational class viz. Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) along with the upcoming Indian Multi-role Helicopter (IMRH) project to cater to both domestic and export requirements.
LUH is a single engine Helicopter of 3-ton class indigenously designed and developed by HAL to replace an approximately 400 units of the ageing Cheetah/Chetak Helicopter fleet of the Indian Armed Forces. A versatile multirole helicopter built to execute a wide spectrum of missions, including search and rescue, casualty evacuation, surveillance, troop transport, and more.

LCH, an indigenously designed and developed twin Engine Combat Helicopter in 5.8 Ton class. A highly reliable and agile attack helicopter capable of operating in all-weather, extreme climate, high altitude & multitude of terrains. The platform is equipped with HMDS system, Electro-optical search and tracking system, IFF, Electronic Warfare (EW) suite etc. It is upholstered with a 20 mm Turret Gun, Laser Guided Rockets, Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), Air to Air missile (AAM) etc. in its armoury.

IMRH, an upcoming medium-lift, multirole platform of 13 Ton weight class. The platform will be designed to fulfil a wide variety of roles viz. troop transport, cargo/logistics, search-and-rescue (SAR), casualty evacuation, disaster relief etc.

Certifications: Helicopter Division, Tumakuru has been accredited with AS 9100 ‘D’, ISO 14001:2004 and DGAQA’s certification under AFQMS-2011 (Approval of Firm and its Quality Management System).
1. Structure Assembly
State of the art facilities and expertise for carrying out the structural assemblies of Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) fuselage modules is established. A modular build concept is incorporated wherein Individual sub-assembly jigs and modular Structural assembly jigs are utilised for precision assembly of primary and secondary helicopter structures like fuselage sections, cabins, tail booms, frames, bulkheads and skins.
Integration of metallic and composite components using certified jigs, aerospace grade fasteners, bonding processes and corrosion protection system. Assembly operations are carried out in a defined sequence in compliance with the aerospace quality standards. In-process verification of stages are carried out to ensure high level of dimensional accuracy, structural integrity and traceability.

2. Final Assembly
State of the art facilities for installation of critical Avionic systems, rotor & transmission systems, hydraulic systems & power plant and electrical loom routing on Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) Structures and their system integration along with functional checks are carried out as per the Aerospace Quality standards to ensure the product safety and reliability. Water leak test facility is also established.

3. Flight Testing
A dedicated hangar with State of the art facilities are established for carrying out the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) ground runs, acceptance / delivery flights, pre-flight inspections, flight data analysis and Helicopter delivery to customer. A dedicated Painting & Sanding booth facilities are also established to cater to the painting requirements as per the Customer desired paint schemes.

4. Air Traffic Control (ATC) services
Helicopter Division, Tumakuru has a dedicated Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility, responsible for managing all aircraft movements such as test flights, acceptance flights, deliveries, and any maintenance-related flights. This ensures safe, coordinated operations, compliance with air-safety regulations, and efficient scheduling of airfield activities.

5. Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS)
ASRS enhances material handling with high speed, accuracy, and intelligent automation. Using a multi-level rack setup with lifters, cranes, transfer cars, and conveyors, it streamlines the storage and retrieval of items. An advanced Warehouse Management System (WMS) integrated with PLC, SCADA & ERP system ensures real-time inventory control and complete traceability. This end-to-end solution maximizes space, minimizes errors, and delivers the efficiency required for modern aerospace manufacturing.

The Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) is a single engine Helicopter of 3-ton class indigenously designed and developed by HAL. A single engine Helicopter equipped with Glass Cockpit & Multi-functional Display (MFD) System. A versatile multirole helicopter engineered to execute a wide spectrum of missions, including search and rescue, casualty evacuation, surveillance, troop transport & deployment in high-altitude regions such as the Himalayas and forward bases along India’s northern forward bases.
Capabilities:

The Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), a twin Engine Helicopter in 5.8 Ton class, indigenously designed and developed to meet the armed forces’ requirement of a dedicated combat Helicopter suited for high-altitude regions. A highly reliable and agile attack helicopter capable of operating in all-weather, extreme climate & multitude of terrains.
